What is remy hair?

Remy Hair Definition:

Remy Hair - Cuticle Layer Intact

Remy Hair - Cuticle Layer Intact

Remy hair is hair that still contains the cuticle layer, which is the outermost layer of natural human hair. With this cuticle layer, remy hair gives off a more natural looking appearance, in addition to greater tangle and matting resistance. Since the cuticles are left intact, remy hair is unidirectional.

Non-Remy Hair Definition:

Non-Remy Hair - Cuticle Damage

Non-Remy Hair - Cuticle Damage

Non-remy hair is hair that does not have all of its cuticle layer intact and as a result is more prone to tangling and matting. Without the cuticle layer, non-remy hair has far less sheen and is of lower quality.

Types of Non-Remy Hair:

There are 2 types of non-remy hair:

Tangle-Free: Cuticles are all removed to reduce friction between the hairs and allow for tangle resistance.

Normal: Least expensive and lowest quality type of non-remy hair since cuticles are all in various directions and prone to tangling and matting.

Different Hair Drawing Methods

Both remy and non-remy hair are subject to different drawing methods, which are:

Single-drawn: This type of hair is shaved off the head and contains various lengths of hair. For example, a package of single-drawn remy hair listed as 20″ will contain various lengths of hair — not exclusively 20″ hair. Single-drawn hair is less expensive and lower quality due to the ease at which it can be obtained.

Double-drawn: This is single-drawn hair that has been cut at both ends to meet an exact length. A package of double-drawn hair that is marked as 20″ will contain only 20″ hair, and as such makes double-drawn hair the more expensive and higher quality option.
